Camtasia makes creating and editing screen recordings a cinch, but try these 6 tips for even more professional and engaging videos:

1.  Plan

Determine a plan for what you will cover in your video and create an outline of what you would like to demonstrate and how you will do it.

2.  Prepare

Set up all technical requirements ahead of time:

  • Test your microphone and record in a quiet place. You can even invest in a high quality microphone for even clearer recordings.
  • Close all applications, alerts and pop-ups
  • Open all necessary applications so you can quickly access them during your recording
  • Make sure your desktop background is simple and professional
  • Screen record  at or smaller than 1024x768 pixels, the average size of a laptop screen. Recording a larger viewing area has a poorer quality when condensed to fit smaller screens. This also frees computer memory for capturing.

3.  Points

Write a script or jot down notes for key points you would like to make and where you will make them. Introduce your video and communicate why your message is important or relevant to them and briefly tell your audience what they will learn.

4.  Pronounce and Pace

Speak clearly and slowly so your learners can digest as much information as quickly as possible. Keep a professional tone.

5.  Practice Practice Practice

Do at least one run through of exactly what you want to demonstrate in your screen recording. Your video will improve more and more each time you practice.

6.  Proof

Review your final video before you send. Make sure the material in your screen recording is accurate and easy to understand.
