Opening Existing Titles in Lectora 12 (Working With Legacy Content)

As always, titles created in earlier versions of Lectora can be opened and modified in the latest version. However, as you open your existing titles in Lectora 12, you should be aware of a few changes that will take place with your content. Read the guide below to make your upgrade to Lectora 12 easy and hassle-free.If you have any questions or experience any issues working with existing titles in Lectora 12, please contact support.Automatic CopyWhen you open a title in Lectora 12 that was originally developed in an earlier version (Lectora 11 or Lectora X), Lectora will automatically create a backup copy of the original AWT file. The file is placed in the same folder with an extension of .awt12. If for some reason you need to go back to an older version of Lectora, you can rename the extension to .awt to open the unmodified original copy.

ShapesIn earlier versions of Lectora, shapes were considered resources. For example, when you added a shape, you could see the associated resource in your Resource Manager as an emf file. In Lectora 12, in order to add many of the new effects -- such as shadows, reflections, and rotation -- shapes are no longer considered resources. As a result, Change Contents actions that target shapes are no longer supported. If you open a title that uses this functionality in Lectora 12, you will see a publish error referencing the associated action. You can work around this new limitation by replacing your shape with the matching unused resource from your image folder found in the Title Resources tab of your Media Library.Bulleted and Numbered ListsLectora 12 has completely redeveloped the way bulleted and numbered lists are added, customized, and published in your courses. What you see in Edit Mode will be reflected more closely in Run Mode and in your published titles.

However, we realize that in the past, using earlier versions of Lectora, you may have made your own adjustments so that text blocks in Edit Mode accounted for changes in the published output.Rather than automatically update all of the bulleted and numbered lists in your existing titles with the new functionality, Lectora will only apply these changes in an existing title if you manually edit a text block that contains a bulleted or numbered list.In short, Lectora will not apply the updates and fixes we’ve made to bulleted and numbered lists in your existing titles unless you choose to edit those text blocks.ButtonsLectora 12 has made it easier than ever before to add and modify buttons of all types. Whether your title uses a text button, stock button, image-based button, or a transparent button, they all now have a consistent set of properties on the Style ribbon. A button will differ based on its Fill and Shape Style, Text Style, and Button States.

buttons

For example, a transparent button is a button with its Opacity setting set to 0. However, because all buttons use the same properties, you can now make your transparent button the shape of a circle or polygon.

Image buttons are buttons with a different Picture fill for each state. Using Lectora 12, you may want to add text to these buttons or choose a custom image for the Disabled state.Social ObjectsLectora 12 has updated Social Objects that can be updated and edited more easily. For example, you can easily edit RSS Feeds, Twitter Feeds, and Web Windows using the initial properties selected (rather than having to modify any code.)

web-window

The Web Window also has a new set of properties on the Style ribbon to set a border weight and color, margin size, transparency, and to add a scrollbar. However, if you have a Web Window in a title created in an earlier version of Lectora where you have made customizations directly in the HTML, then Lectora 12 will load your Web Window as an External HTML object in order to maintain your changes.
