Create Engaging e-Learning Courses!

Are you frustrated by the loud sighs and complaints you get when you say that you create e-Learning courses? Are you sick of hearing people grumble about how online training is boring? But e-Learning doesn’t have to be boring—which is what Joe Ganci believes—and we think you guys do too! That’s why at the 2014 Lectora® User Conference, Joe showed us how to create engaging courses that people will enjoy in his session, “Don’t Bore Your Learners! Create a Truly Engaging Session.” We liked his tips so much that we wanted to bring a few back from LA to share with you! Here are our favorites:

  • Make your text answer the why.If your e-Learning isn’t addressing the why in addition to the what, it’s probably not the best e-Learning. The why is extremely important—when you include the why, your e-Learning becomes much more interesting and engaging.
  • Use the learner’s name to give feedback.Names are powerful. Your name is the most important word in your own language because it gets your attention and it’s instinctive. Because of this, we’re more attracted to anything that uses our names. Use your learner’s name in feedback to make it more meaningful to the learner.
  • Give your learners control.People like to be in control, so take advantage of that in your e-Learning course! Give your learners the option to take control when you ask questions. For example, in a scenario, let the learner choose his or her response to a situation and then view the consequences—good or bad—of that choice.
